Engine and TC temperatures with EMS monitor
Hi learned fellows
I installed a madman EMS-1 and has been in for about a month now and generally works well. I now have questions about what it is telling me and wondering if I have problems or if it is a case of too much information or better off not knowing?
This is all on my 1996 Defender 130 300TDi. IP is factory set as is turbo. I have mechanical boost gauge and it maxes at 14.5~15psi
EMS1 with EGT, TC temp and coolant level and temp in the inline adaptor in top hose, oil pressure, voltage etc
The coolant temp climbs up and gets to about 65 deg and stays there. I would have expected higher? Mind you the original temp guage only ever came to mid point. Is this normal or does it point to stuck open thermostat? I know how to test but thought to ask first.
The oil pressure works fine. The readings are totally as expected.
The EGT works fine and scares me a bit when pushing up hills under load! I have set alarm at 620 but is easy to get that high without trying up a hill. I kept foot down and it went to 700 just for a moment before I backed off and it drops quite quickly. Much more reactive than I thought. What really is a realistic limit?
The battery voltage seems to be very jumpy and alarms low voltage when I think it is unlikely to be true. I took power from ignition on back of the ignition switch via a fuse. Ground is actually to the head not the block but is very secure. I have lowered the alarm point to 11v to minimize the alarms. Any one else experience this?
The oil temp is mounted to the TC in the hole in the side of the TC as shown in the MadMan install video on Youtube. It is on passenger side and up high on the side. Just removed plug and put sensor in its place. It seems to behave around town where it barely gets to 40deg. But on the open road it climbs higher. When it gets to about 70deg it seems to get jumpy and jumps around and even over 100deg so trips alarm. The hole is above the oil level in the TC but I would guess the oil splashes around inside the TC and the transducer probably picks up the case temperature as much as the oil. I think the temp is not possible to change as quick as the display jumps so am wondering if anyone else have seen this before and any solutions to try? I am suspicious of the sensor and was thinking of swapping the coolant and oil temp sensors around? Only other thing would be the earth to the TC and not quite sure what to do there. I could run an earth strap from block to Head and also from block to TC? I have seen people move the sensor to other locations but not sure I want to drain the oil etc to do so just now.
Any other 300TDi results from other users? EGT seems to be the most debated.
I have Diesel gas so intend to see how the gas effects the EGT and will let you know how it goes.
Sorry so verbose

Ok so obviously upset the LR Gods some how. I will sacrifice a toyota LC!
Can I dumb it down
for a 300TDi can you answer these questions please.
What temp should coolant sit on?
What is normal for working it up hill or loaded up?
What about TC temperature?
And EGT max safe temp?
Thanks
James
