Torque settings on head bolts
Hey
I just finished removing my air conditioning compressor on my 93 defender 200tdi (don't worry it didn't have any gas in it) and I was going to put my bolts back in (pic included) and was wondering if anyone knows what the torque settings are?

Bit confused, you removed the AC compressor and now have to put two head bolts back in? surely not!
You should tighten ALL the head bolts in a sequence.. three rounds:
1st 40Nm
2nd 60 degree turns
3rd 60 degree turns
I recently took the head off a 200tdi and would have thought thats the only time you would undo the headbolts?

Take a look at the second picture, these are big 19mm bolts that go through the head into the block. One of my mates think they must have a toque setting but I haven't been able to find anything on them.

yes they are head bolts that secure the head to the block.. I just gave the torque settings.. question is - why are they out?

if they are ther M12x140mm then you need to go an extra 20 degrees after the two lots of 60 degrees

Ohh sorry. They went through the bracket for the air conditioning compressor and I wanted to remove the bracket.

the bracket for compressor does not make use of the head bolts on my 200tdi. I would not be happy if it did.
If you dont undo/do-up headbolts in stages, and in the right order you can crack the head - or perhaps compromise the gasket seal.
At least those would be my concerns.
