    Does anything dissolve Sikaflex?

    Highly technical question...

Some clown who shall remain nameless () made sure the back windows of my Tdi Defender wouldn't come loose anytime soon and Sikaflex and riveted them back in. Of course back then the bailey channel felt was still good. Now even the strategically inserted earplugs in the frames aren't enough to stop the glass rattling as the felt is all but gone. I've bought a Garrison kit from Inc to fix the windows but removing the window frames is proving problematic

Anyone have a solution other than razor blades and lots of patience?

Man we use sikaflex at work its strong stuff every time we have to unglue stuff it always comes down to having to cut it. we've tried heating it to make it soft, chemicals to try and eat it, thinners will work if u are just cleaning little bits off but it wont eat it if there is lots of it. Its solvent based so u would need to use a solvent remover if there is one. Good luck

According to Sikkens, sikkaflex must be removed mechanically once cured

Not what you want to hear but I've only every removed it successfully by mechanical means. Grinders with wire brushes make quick work of it... sadly they do much the same thing to aluminium.

    Sika

I am a boatbuilder and your only chance is a hot knife Heated to soften and manual (read difficult) work.

I just replaced my bailey channel bu removing the old (after pressure cleaning out crud and slime) and sliding in replacement. Wriggling window to slide in the new felt lubricated with spray lanolene.

After 2 counties and my second deefer, all with rattling windows, I cant beleive that 15 minutes per side ended years of putting up with the noise.

I was thinking of replacing the whole windows to end the frustration.

    Good luck

    Regards

I guess it would be a good way of venting my frustrations... until I realised what I had done to the panels
