Thread: Does anything dissolve Sikaflex?

Generally when they replace windscreens they cut out and leave a layer behind and use this as a base for the replacement. Not sure of the case with your situation. Petrol when still soft/at a skin stage, post cure. As above, try instead of fishing line, either fishing braid or the hot wire sounds good.

Yes, as a former waterproof specialist i can say most of what you have been told here is true of Sikaflex.
Stanley knife or a flexible hobby knife are the go for what you are trying to do.
There is actually a primer that you can use with this product that makes it stick even more its great stuff.

Ive had limited success with loctite gasket chisel...

it works on some not on others. If you're really lucky there's one type of sikaflex that when you apply the gasket chisel it releases the grip of the sikaflex without actually dissolving it. The end effect is a long shape of sikaflex that peels out in one piece.

If you can get a length of 0.6mm MIG wire through the Sikaflex and attach two wooden dowels for handles, you will be able to cut through it quickly. Guitar strings work as well but are comparatively expensive,

Chook73 used a paint scrapper, with a sharpened blade and tap it up and under the window frame to cut through the factory installed sika flex and worked his way around. This was done when installing the new gull wings.

I've always used a Caramel Wheel to remove Sikaflex where space permits.

However in your scenario more than likely wouldn't work :-(

I have a love hate relationship with that dreaded stuff.

Talk to you friendly fire and rescue service, we have a special tool for cutting out windows was meant for rubber seals but can work on vulcanised screens .....but then we don't care to much if they break ...Gary
