I note you are in Brisbane, and this certainly applies there. However, it is much less accurate when referring to Sydney water, and there are probably other towns where it is even less applicable.
More accurate would be "Town water may have a lot of minerals in it, and you should not use it unless you know it is safe to use".

SupporterI sent a coolant question to Nulon via their website and once again it's been ignored. I could phone them but I wanted something in writing.
I'm waiting for a reply from Castrol, let's see if they answer.
I'd like to stick with IAT coolants but a lot of manufacturers don't state the corrosion pack type on the container. Comments like 'suitable for older engines' don't really mean much either.

Look around the cleaning / detergent sections in IGA and other supermarkets... Usually near ironing supplies and often at a ground or first shelf level.
Over here cheaper at supermarkets than hardware stores...

The issue is not which is purest but what do you need to use to minimise engine corrosion. The answer is either is just fine. Demineralised should mean that all the potential salts (not just sodium chloride) in the water that could set up chemical reactions and thus corrosion have been removed. There may be other inert substances in the water that do not matter. Distilled should only be pure water, but then remember that it had to be produced somewhere where there may be metal components that it has passed through and that it has to be stored and transported so your bottled distilled water will still have some substances in it and may not be more pure than demineralised or de-ionised water.
