I would think Tom knows best for his shafts. Purge - thats how he supplies them.
Hi All,
I was just looking at the Tom Woods website for details on Double Cardon shafts.
Got to looking at the "Drive Shaft Maintenance" page and found out that my Hardy Spicer D/C joint has a flush mounted grease fitting and more importantly that I need one of below to grease it:
Adapter, Needle Nose, Narrow Professional | plews-edelmann
Does anyone know where I can get this little fitting from here in Sydney?
Secondly, Id always believed that I shouldn't keep greasing when grease pops out from behind the seals, the Tom Woods Maintenance page says I should! Whats your thoughts, purge or just add a bit now and again???
Thx
Jon

Jon,I ALWAYS purge uni joints, look at the color and condition of the grease coming out, quite often you'll get water also. Pat
I purge only after water immersion or if the UJ is unknown.
once a month I give them just enough grease to crack the seals

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
I'm the same. I always purge mine to push out any dirt or water that has found its way in.
I have had Hardie Spicer replace the uni joints in the D2 and have never had any trouble greasing them - didn't need any special fittings on the grease gun for them.
My young bloke owns the D2 now and I know that he has gone through and greased everything underneath it without problem at least once since he took ownership.

Greasing the uni's is easy and normal. My issue is how to grease the double Cardon joint, without the standard nipple... Hence the question if anyone knows where to get a needle nose grease adapter from.
From an earlier post I'll be calling the guys over in blacktown.

I don't believe so, it looks like its pressed into the joint, also, the Tom Woods site says the hardy spicer double cardon joint needs a special greasing tool. It's basically a fat syringe that attaches to a standard grease gun and allows you to grease the joint.Originally Posted by Brian Hjelm

You can buy the different types of needle adaptors from places like Repco.
When I bought my Woods double Cardan shaft,it came with the tool to grease the joint.
