    300TDI timing belt wear

I recently had my timeing belt changed at aprox 120k ,the belt was in fairly good shape .
The new belt has lasted 10k .
It appears to have walked forward and worn the front edge away until there wasn,t enough strength left and it stripped the belt teeth .
A new kit was fitted with the belt , and a new timeing cover .
No one seems to know why , and they are worried that the same thing will happen if a new belt is fitted .
any experience and advice would be appreciated .

some causes that I'm aware of

    1. IP not mounted squarely OR is moving its spindle beyond normal limits walking the belt off of the rounded front.

    2. the tensioning and idler pullies not mounted correctly

    3. not using the last edition of the timing kit

    4. Crank gear put onto a damaged/remanufactured crank thats not been done correctly. (I'd imagine this to be exceedingly rare, I havent seen it in a landy yet but have seen it as a "hey check this out" in a small E/W 4 pot petrol)

Does your timing gear, idler, tensioner look like this ? This is the 'updated' timing gear.

I haven't seen the 'old' type, but from the picture in the manual there is no flange on the drive gear but there are flanges on the idler and tensioner.

PS. I didn't carve the lumps out of the casting (bottom left) or grind the end of the crank, that was the previous timing cover removal person.

    Thanks for the replies .
The kit is the latest type , but there was some end float on the injector pump and its fixings were slightly loose, so possibly the cause .
It just seemed like a very radical change from 120k no wear , to 10k u/s when the only change was the belt and pulleys etc .
    Thanks again .
