Now this is starting look pretty stupid.

    Is Land Rover sitting on a time-bomb? - Page 5 - MG-Rover.org Forums

That is absolutely hilarious!!!! Made me laugh out loud at the PC - good job there's no one about!!

As for project codes, it was under the BMW era that the codes changed from apparently random building names etc to simply L** for Land Rover projects, and R** for Rover projects.

    So CB40 became L20
the 1998 series 2 Disco (tempest) became L25
the current (BMW) Range Rover programme became L30
    Defender stayed as Defender
the Disco series 3 programme (continuously undermined by BMW) became L50.

When Ford took over, all the codes had to change again, in keeping with Ford worldwide practices.
    So L20 became L314
    Defender became L316
    L25 Series 2 Disco became L318
    Series 3 Disco became L319
New Range Rover Sport became L320
    P38a range Rover became L321
L30 Series 3 Range Rover (BMW) became L322

And what was the benefit of all this naming and renaming of programmes?? Nothing at all. Complete waste of time, money and effort by Ford and BMW.

They should have spent more time on looking at innovative technologies, interesting product, and worthwhile markets, and less on non core **** like this sort of admin.
So we now need to update the forum title with the pre-ford model designators too, and I reckon you should put in the Code name as well

    vis.

    Discovery 2 (Tempest, L25, L318): Td5 (Storm) and V8 (Thor)
So Tempest was the original project name, and L25 and L318 were interventions of later owners.

And as posted in the other L318 thread, L318 was the FoMoCo model number. BMW called it the L25, and the Disco 2 was developed as the Tempest.

soooo if you want the model designators Ron needs to change it to:

    Discovery 2 (Tempest, L25, L318)

just to ensure all the options are covered.

I've stirred up the D2 owners even more than the D3/D4 owners get stirred.

Ahh attack of the the 'Harry Enfield's Grandad Trainspotters'. Sounds like something for the General Chat 'that not how you do it, this is how you do it' brigade.

And now you've merged the threads so it looks like Pedro is the one who's upset & made the poll .

If the Isuzu 110 is an "faux Land Rover" then so is every Land Rover with a Buick V8 derivative or VM diesel or BMW V8 or TD6 derivative or Ford Mondeo deiviative 2.7 or 3.0 litre (TDV6 & SDV6) and the Ford transit derivative puma TD4.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Absolutely correct. Drivers of "pur sang" LR products (like the Td5 powered vehicles) have no truck with these half-blood pretenders.
