    Freelander 1998 over revving

Hi all, Wondering if anyone has seen or experience this before, got a 1998 Freelander diesel that has developed a very noticable over rev when ever I back off the throttle (ie to change gears) it is not just a slight over rev is sits about 2100-2300rpm
I have tried a few mechanics for a quick scan but no-one (including the local Land Rover guys) can get my car to talk, everyone has told me my computer must have an issue as it can't be recognized by their scanners?
    Any help is appreciated.

I assume it's manual and has cruise control, check the cruise control switch (if a FL1 has this) it is in the clutch hydraulic line in a D2 and that cancels cruise, they develop a leak and then don't work properly, so the revs flare between gears, we had this problem with a Td5, maybe be a similar issue.

The early Freelanders (98-00) did not have cruise control and they were all manual.

I once had a similar experience but it was because of one temp sensors had failed and the car had gone into limp mode BUT if this is the case the Check Engine Light should be on.

You need to get the codes read - obviously using the correct testbook - dealers and major Land rover Independents will have the correct gear.

Thanks guys, The local Land Rover dealer can't get the car to communicate either, which leans weight to the argument of it being a car issue rather than a scan tool issue.
