oil filter on disco 300 tdi

    Hi all,
Am having a problem with oil leaking out where the filter goes.
Filter used is Z89A(ryco),that came off it.
Beast is a 95 disco tdi.

A, is that the right filter. The matting surface seems to wide for the gasket on the filter.
B, could there be something else that needs attention to stop the leak.

As this is stopping the beast from getting rego'd,would like to find a solution to it.

    Thanks

    cheers

I thought I had leaking oil filter on my defender 300tdi and it turned out to be oil cooler line dripping from above filter, don't know if disco's same

    oil leak

    Hi ,
I have a 98 and same problem and after trying filters etc found the oil was coming from the steering box and the associated oil lines where there were small leaks that blew backwards to land on the filter thus running down to look like that was the leak.
also check the engine oil cooler lines also in the adjacent area, this was also leaking on to the filter.
    Good luck

Had exactly the same problem on my 300 Tdi and after practically dismantling the front corner of the engine bay found that the leak was coming from the front bolt holding the oil cooler thermostat housing to the block. Oil was traveling down the thread and coming out behind the bolt head, dripping on to the top of the filter and running down the inside of the oil filter.

Took ages to nail, you need to lie on the ground and get your head up high on the RHS of the diff. to see it. Like everything, quite obvious once you know. Took both oil cooler thermostat housing bolts out, the rear ones thread was clean the front one black with oil.

Easily fixed with a liberal coating of silicon on the thread.

Mine leaks oil in that area too, but it's definitely from the oil cooler lines. It just runs along the underside of the line to the lowest point, then drips.....onto the front U joint spraying it EVERYWHERE!

I also use the the Z89A(ryco). No problems there. Just a matter of looking around to figure out exactly where the oil is leaking from.

Yeah, mine was leaking there as well, pretty common I think, leaks at the joints where the rubber hose joins the steel pipe. By the time it drips down onto everything and gets slashed around you reckon there's a dozen oil leaks. Pretty easy to fix, a pair of hoses will cost you $125 from Roverlord and a fairly straight forward, if messy, job to replace. The only trick is to remember to pull out the old 'O' rings as they don't usually come out with the old hose fitting.

My only question is, if these replacement hoses are OEM, won't they leak as well? How long have you had the replacement ones for?

Z89A is the equivalent filter to ERR3340.

Re the oil lines, KLR Automotive supplied these hose fittings for mine. That fixed the leaks.

I got local hydraulic fella to make my oil lines cause I needed them straight away. Cost a tad more than oem ones- which I would have got if I could have waited.
Original ones lasted 16 years which I think is acceptable
