    4.6L head refurb recommendations pls

    More questions:

Recommendations for machine shop in Bris. area for getting the head skimmed and cleaned up ?

Was planning to have the valves reseated etc... as well as cleaning up the ports to match the inlet manifold... not interested in a significantly higher compression ...which would mean removing engine etc and fitting higher compression pistons...am reasoning that going from 8.37:1 to say 8.5:1 with a head skim should be within the bounds of the current pistons...

Need a new cam which will probably means new lifters.

Would welcome recommendations for sourcing a standard profile cam: There's a shop here in Bris called Tighe Cams who can replicate the original and heat treat etc...anyone with any experience of this company?

Recommendations for lifters?...I've read all the guff re. testing lifters for preload etc and have that in hand... home made 'special tools'

    Thanks as always!

    cheers

Maybe a bit too far for you but I would recommend P+A Gilberts (Paul) in Southport.

He is excellent, and very knoweldgable. I've had heaps of stuff done by him and not one issue ever.

Thank you! A pleasant run down the freeway is not out of the question! I presume they would sell VRS gasket sets as well?
    cheers

He would certainly be able to get the gasket set I would think yes.

He rebuilt both the heads on our D2, including cleaning, skimming, reseating the valves, along with a couple of other tweaks, and a new set of genuine LR valve stem seals for $520 inc GST

I had already got the top end set from Turners in the UK for the rest of it.

he has done quite a few other members cylinder heads in this area too.

    cheers

For a cam, lifters, and a shim kit, use Turner Engineering in the UK - an extremely well-respected bunch, and with the quickest freight I've seen yet.
