TD5 head gasket thickness
Hi all,
I am about to do the head gasket on my D2 td5 2000 with 213k on the clock. It's been losing water lately with no obvious sign of where it's going.
Anyway I have been reading the Good Oil - lots of info & lots of reading
- but I don't understand the 1 hole, 2 hole & 3 hole gasket thing - why is there differing thickness of head gasket?
Also do you use the same thickness ??
& how do you tell what it has at the moment?
I just want to order stuff from UK in advance.
thanks
Steve

Hi, there is a tab on the front of the gasket protruding below the coolant outlet on the front of the head. It will have 1, 2 or 3 holes. Replace it with the same number of holes. The gasket thickness is specifically relevent to piston protrusion.
1 Hole = 1.27mm
2 Hole = 1.20mm
3 Hole = 1.35mm

there is a sort of a hole on the edge, more like a nick - see photo circled in red - is that it???
it's not my photo - comes from Psimpson via the good oil.

thanks

The hole(s) about an inch further back than that circle.
Its based on the protusion of the piston from the block. You can check it if you like but I would just refit the new one the same as the one you removed.
