At the moment it would be like shooting in the dark.

Maybe if you were to advise a few details such as year, model, motor, kms done etc then someone may be able to offer a few suggestions.

As Xtreme posted - impossible diagnosis without any details.....

New noises can have a multitude of causes ranging from idler & tensioner bearings, belts, and water, a/c & p/s pumps, alternator & others ............

Any new noise needs checking and mostly will be relatively cheap to rectify, but if left can lead to more expensive repairs.

If you can get a local with practical tdi knowledge to have a look they could probably point you in the right direction....

(I guess from your handle that it's a tdi of some sort)

    What sort of noise?

If its a tappy type noise, when were tappets last done?

Does it change with revs or constant frequency? Can you hear from inside the car? Better/worse when hot or cold?
