So are you sticking to your guns that they are ARB
We bought a 6 x 6 civilan some months ago. The previous owner fitted ARB lockers in the two rear diffs & fitted free wheeling hubs to the rear one. He also fitted 3.5 ratio at the same time. Very nice to drive. Paul
they were on the last lot that I tech prepped.
I use an Ashcroft locker in the front. Half the price of an arb, no pain in the bum exposed copper lines, no rubber seals constantly touching spinning steel and they grab alot more of the axle than an arb. The only thing I have against a detroit is the wheels have to be spinning at a certain speed before they engage. I could be wrong about that though, i've been known to be wrong. For mine I'd prefer to be able to turn them off though. Brenno had a detroit for ages he'd be a good one to talk about them.
Bayswater Differentials claim that they fitted detroit Lockers in both rear axles and another one in the centre diff to some of the SAS Perenties that were deployed to Afghanistan. I worked for them a few years back, but it was after they prepared the Landies.
We also removed a few sets of Detroits from bogie drive trucks for unhappy owner drivers because of the chattering, banging, hop ,skipping and jumping when making turns in a lightly or unladen rig.
Most heavy truck axle manufacturers have been offering cross axle difflocks for a few years now.
Bill.
So no point in an LSD on the back by the looks of things, no use in a cross axle situation with a wheel off the ground (which will be relativly easy to do with the rear of the 6x6).
So looks like it is down to ARB or Detroit for the rear. From what have said the Mil 6x6s have used both Detroits and ARBs. I will likely run onboard air anyway so it wouldnt be that much more effort to go with the ARBs...
Nah. Built it before I had a computer.
This is one.

Dont want to hijack the thread but PM me if there is anything I can tell you.
it was mentioned to me that they were moving away from ARB to detroits or some such as people couldn't be trusted to disengage them when hitting tarmac.
No idea if there was any truth to that or not
