I am biased... but consider Optima
I am after suggestions for a good battery with cold cranking amps for a 3.9 Isuzu 4dbi non turbo engine in my landy. I purchased an exide 4wd battery last year but I am not happy with its performance. The vehicle has not been used for five weeks and the battery is dead. I use an isolator switch so no battery drain.....any ideas.

Exide are a reputable brand so you may have the same issue with another battery. I'd be buying a charger and leaving that on if you plan on leaving your vehicle for 5 weeks.
pretty much any N70 size battery will fit the bill.
Im currently using Excide in the foz, and some freebies in the disco's.
Ive had plenty of luck with centuries too.

Sounds like a warranty query... I've left el-cheapo batteries for several weeks, once for 6 weeks fully connected ('74 VW Passat) with no problems.
For a charger, I'd look at either a C-Tek, - or a Jaycar clone if the budget/usage won't stretch that far.
When you're mobile again, have the alternator checked...
Or maybe you're driving pattern (Length & number of journeys) leading up to the Big Flattening was'nt conducive to Long Battery Life.
Agree, most half-decent N70's would handle a 4 litre diesel.
Looks like the battery is just out of warranty as it was purchased in May last year. I have been looking into Bond batteries and have heard that they are quite good. 750 cold cranking amps and just under $200.

I've lost all confidence in Optima Batteries...so have a great number of members in our Dubai based 4x4 club who have also stopped using them due to premature failures within the first 12 months of purchase.
The reply from the local distributor is that after examining the returned faulty batteries they could find no default of manufacturing or materials and hence the battery had reached the end of it's useful life.
This is a con when we were told that they carried an unconditional 12 month warranty.
Reading some US sites...some 4x4 users have also found a sudden drop in quality since manufacturing of Optima batteries was moved to Mexico.

Last weekend I fitted a battery isolator SW to the top of my bull bar in front of the DS headlight, this is on 96 disco v8 it seems to be the only way I can stop mine draining over a week or two with no use ...so far so good. Gary
