    Advice request ~ 300 tdi belt change

    Hi folks.... it is timing belt change time for my D1

    I was hoping that those of you who have done this regularly on a 300tdi could kindly take a look at these pics and let me know if the debris pattern and buildup is normal....or do you think that I have a pulley alignment issue?

    info....
    1. distance covered ~ approx 70,000km
    2. belt tension seems OK and belt is not noticeably worn
    3. from memory I do not think there was this much debris last time I changed it

    the new kit came with replacement crankshaft and tensioner pulleys which I will obviously install

    From the limited number of 300tdi belts that I have done ,that looks pretty good.Only showing some wearing at the crank,was the gear fitted with the spot welded flange?Hopefully the new crankshaft gear you will be fitting is a one piece ie with cast in shoulder.

    thanks eddy.... yes + yes ....

    the current crank pulley is the fabricated spot welded type and yes;

    the replacement to be installed is of the one piece flange type

    (I was in Mandurah the other day ... back in the east now)

    all normal. If you already have the one piece crank gear you dont need to replace it but since its in the kit I do anyway.

    Pay particular attention to the oring seal and appropriate use of loctites+antisiezes.

    thanks Dave.....

    getting the old crank "O" ring out has been a problem in the past - any useful advice you've got gratefully received .....

    I've had issues with the timing cover bolts before and had previously replaced them all with socket head stainless bolts with neverseize so dismantling this time was quite straightforward...
