Newer ? - There is nothing new under the sun... I recall the 'new' self-osccilating ones back in the 70's. - Used a shaped cavity within which caused the jet to flip from side to side really quickly. Looked like a simple a fan spray but was'nt.
They were standard fitment on some Yankee car back then. Have'nt seen them since, maybe too expensive for production. - A bit like magnets in or on oil filters...

You could just damage & distort the squirty hole and keep doing it till you get a splotch effect rather than a neat thin squirt...

Try a motor sports supplier, see if you can get multi-jet wiper mounted units.

I'd like to do the same thing but wondered if the standard pump would be powerful enough as I assume the fan spray uses more water.

That's as far as I got.

the fan jets like those on my vw caddy are very very good

    but

you need to use a good windscreen washer additive such as sonax to get the most benefit from them.

plain water is a waste of time as are most of the regular additives

they tend to block if you dont use a good additive as well.
