    Alternator for 95' rangie

Hi all, i am currently in the process of dropping a new 95 rangie 3.9 in to my classic, however the new engine is a serpentine setup not the classic vbelt setup like on my old engine. i have all the ancillaries to go on the serpentine setup except the alternator, which looks the same except for the pulley. From my research it looks like the 300 tdi is the most readily available alternator and pulley which would mean i could either fit a 300 tdi pulley to my v-belt alternator or replace the whole setup with a 300 tdi alternator. Does anybody have any experience with this and can confirm they are the same beyond visual appearance, or if they are not can anybody point me towards a 95 serp belt alternator?

    thanks

The 300tdi alternator is just a few mm off from being able to fit a V8. ( Short explanation). However, the same aftermarket alternator for the v8 is more readily available than the tdi - so if you find a tdi alternator (AMR4248) the odds are that a v8 one is not fair away. There are a few threads around on using other alternators - Bosch in particular on a 3.9 serpentine, but generally it's the Magnetti Marelli A127 ( aka AMR4247) that drops straight in.
