Relocated the facet pump to the back of the vehicle. Still heard before kicking over but doesn't vibrate the dash (maybe an exaggeration) like the previous location, which was evident even at idle. I had it on top of the right front wheel well in the D1, must have been something in the way it moved but the sound came right inside previously. Now its to the right of the chassis on the body support outrigger, just in front of the sedimenter, out of the way enough for now. Wired it with a resistor type relay and it seems to have helped with the AM interference. The fact that now its not right next to the antenna might have helped.

    The positive reasons Dave listed:
    Faster priming - yes.
    Doesn't leak - agreed.
Can be cheaper - yes, in itself, in an engine bay location. But be like me and want it away and add the extra hose and relay. Not cheaper now, but won't die in a short time and if it does will be cheaper and quicker next time.
Easier to install. - Don't agree, could have replaced the original way quicker than the stuff I had to do with my install, but depends how much you want to do I suppose. Given some of the horror stories I have read about the original pump replacements not lasting very long, maybe it was quicker even with the additional bits I had to do.

Conclusion - glad I did the conversion, and happy with the end result. Simon

Did you mount it on the"optional rubber shock mounts".
This makes a world of difference to the noise and vibration, on the older style Facets anyway.

I did not. Wasn't aware of the option but thanks. Where it is now at the back is fine now, and its fixed the AM radio interference.

And from what I've read, can't the original pump leak fuel into the sump and turn the oil to jelly or something?
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

On a defender 130 300 TDI I had I fitted a facet type pump at the rear sedimentor with the standard lift pump in place as the standard lift pump is rubbish.
The only problem I had is the facet pump had to be replaced regularly due water and mud in that area of the vehicle and it in time entering the insides of the pump stopping it.
