and sorry, yes, SHCS = socket head cap screw, AKA an allen bolt or unbrako, but the proper term is 'socket head cap screw' as Unbrako is a brand of SPS Fasteners, and they (and Holokrome) make probably the best SHCS's.

I run my wheel bearings in oil, this means the oil from the diff is circulating out through the stub shaft, past the axle shaft/ flange and into the bearings....the bearings acts as fans and cool the oil

Easy, one of the functions of oil is that of a cooling agent. Thats why pistons have underside squirters, to keep the bottom of the piston crown cool.

As for maxidrive, the holy grail of aftermarket Land Rover driveline components in Australia. Went out of business some time ago but the quality designed axles, flanges etc. are now made by other suppliers, sort of a Phoenix arising from the ashes, so to speak.
The 'maxidrive' term is often used generically to describle these components.

That's my basic understanding of it. :) I'll leave it to the 'sages' to cross the i's and dot the t's and correct me if need be.

Maxidrive was the name given to the first rover lockers made by Key Four Wheel Drive on the Gold Coast, late being known as Maxidrive Engineering. It was a small operation that had a big impact on the rover community WORLD wide. The owner/operator retired and closed up shop. His right hand man, Barry Ward owns and runs Hi-Tough Engineering making the same axles and drive flanges and doing some of the machine work for some other "maxidrive" products. M R Automotive bought the rights to the Maxidrive name and some of the product line.

the "can" or round cylinder attached to my axle tube just left of diff center, referred to by me in the pic, is the actuator (piston housing and piston with selector fork) the hemisphere has been machined modded, and other bits added (including axle shafts and drive flanges)
