Hi,
Can anyone give me an idea as to get the proper idle speed set on the 300tdi. at the moment it seems a little high showing about800rpm on the disco dash.
What has been done is as follows;
New TURNERS flowed head, new Injectors & New Cam Belt. Idle speed has not been played with before or after the head change. Idle speed was high before Cam Belt change???
It's got me stumped. Any way of checking the Idle speed without special tools/instruments?
I've always thought it was 700 rpm. I don't know where I got that from though. I think there's a small plate or a screw to adjust the idle, were the cable mounts onto the injector pump. It's been years since I've touched it so I can't quite remember.
In an auto, the idle is supposed to be a bit higher than the manual. However, if you want it back to 750 -
First check the adjustment for slack in the cable with the knob you can see at the end of the cable sheath - it rotates and moves the cable in and out a little. (just like adjusting the handbrake)
If (and only if) that does not work, the idle adjustment is the lower stop screw on the body of the IP ( a slightly different pump but you get the drift). Do not touch the center nut as it is for something else.
Thanks Langy and others.
Cable is as loose as can be and the Stop screw at the bottom of the IP pump has not been changed since new (Serviced by LR themselves for the first 8yrs). Idle was about 700rpm on the dash tacho before the head/injector change so I can't understand why the big jump in revs, unless bad injectors/clogged injectors and idle speed set with these in place and now new injectors flow better and hence more revs??
Might adjust the screw to indicate 700rpm on the dash and see how it is.
