    split rims

Hi all, before I place an ad in the wanted section.........can you get 16" split rims for a defender? I don't know a lot about landrovers and haven't seen any with them. Would appreciate any help.

    Army Patrol Vehicles

The special patrol 6x6 LR as used by the SAS had them so do the 110 Perenties used by Norforce, Pilbara Regt and 51 FNQR. Not all Army 110s had them though.

    There is another way -

    Wheel Repairs Melbourne

I know you are a bit far away from them, however, it is possible to swap wheel centers in the same dia wheels. Have a scout around your area for similar places, then send whomever a set of split rims from a troopie, and a set of landrover rims (ie from a disco). They do their thing and you get a set of landrover split rims back all nice and neat (and legit)

It's got to be cheaper than tracking down who made up the split rims for the Military.

    Just an idea....

Split rims have no well so have a larger centre than regular rims, so this wouldn't work. You could possibly have steel plate centres made but they can get very heavy.

thanks for that, I was afraid that would be the case. There is a place here in Perth that will do it but being new to landrovers I wasn't sure if splits were an 'off the shelf "item......pity, landrovers seem like such good off roaders I thought they would have splits??....thanks for your replies.

Try Ron from Summerfield Rims, he made mine. They are heavy but I only use them with cross ply tyres for off track work. I found 100 series cruiser split rims and he had centres made and welded in.

for the money your going to spend on splits go buy decent set of tyre levers and a bead breaker, you're going to need them anyway.

on good day i change the rubber on jj profile drop centers just as fast as a split.
