    Welding on Disco 1

After spending the day cutting out my the rusty sils on my 97 D1 and fabricating replacements (50x100 3mm box section with 10mm solid plate welded on the side to give some rock sliding capability) I'm about to weld these in.

The question I have is do I need to do anything more than just disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery before welding on the body of the D1?

I am obviously worried about blowing the ECU and other crucial electrical parts.

    Thanks in advance.

Just isolating the battery is fine as that is the only point that the circuit is completed. Obviously that includes making sure the positive terminal doesn't touch the body when welding

    Good luck with it

If you are paranoid about arc currents disconnect the ECU plug and the radio.

Personally I have welded many vehicles with everything left plugged in, never once had any problems blowing electronics, just I always have my welder earth clamp directly on the piece I am welding. This is with a good quality MIG welder.

I get more worried about the car interior catching fire.

Thanks all. I've welded on many cars and learnt that hard way that some or more susceptible to electronic issues due to welding, especially with Tig . From what I've read its the higher frequency of the tight that's some ECUs don't like. Some don't like the varying low voltage of welders either, but from whatbnive now ben told this isn't an issue for the Discovery.
