The brake test machine does a print out of the braking, and this is essential for the Road Worthy Certificate, and accompanies the Road Worthy Certificate.

my inspector is the best I have found. One of my Land Rovers had a crack in the screen a few years ago. He told me I had cracked it after I went to him and passed it with that crack-- we fixed soon after.

So he is less tough than most on insignificant things, but the car needs to be mechanically safe.

So another inspector is not an option for me.

Tyres are near the end of their life, still legal but only just. Getting new ones soon. They were purchased New by previous owner, and have done a lot of kilometres every week since New.

No one answered my question about booster from early RRC as I have a wreck that my son rolled after a front tyre blowout, hence have a brake booster we could try on it.

John, I tested the vacuum on my 300 Tdi today. The pressure/vacuum gauge I use sits on 10 Kpa (approx) at rest so I assume this is atmospheric pressure (or there abouts). At idle it goes up to 40 Kpa and revved to about 2500 rpm it goes to 80 Kpa. No idea what this is in inches of mercury.
Probably worth measuring if you've got the gear.
My vacuum pump was leaking at the seal which is a pretty common problem so it seems. There's a thread on how to fix it which saves you a mint on buying a new one if this is your problem. I did it to mine and all's good.
