    suspension systems

If you get a strong coil spring and a weak or worn out shock absorber/damper then I have noticed the car becomes very bouncy as you would expect because the spring has nothing slowing it down. I would like to ask the question of some other combinations and the outcome in terms of the driving experience, eg what combination gives good cornering, nice ride, good allround

weak spring / strong heavily damped shock absorber

strong spring / strong shock without adequate load

well matched weak spring and weak shock with too much load

I am trying to match a shock to an air spring not OEM, how does one go about selecting the right amount of damping?

    thanks

    very generally

you pick the diameter of the spring so that at its operating pressure at nominal height it offers the same load bearing of the OEM spring, then you can use the OEM spec shocky.

a larger airbag running a lower pressure requires a shock with more compressive dampening and less rebound control whereas a smaller airbag with a higher operating pressure requires less compression control and more rebound.

other than tailoring the shocky to suit the airbags characteristics unlike going from leafs to coils where the leaf offers resistance to motion as the leaves slide over each other a coil spring and an airbag offer reasonably similar ride attributes.

what you say makes perfect logic.

So I replaced a spring with a bag and the shock wore out very fast, so if I was to get another shock the same in every way except a larger diameter this would be roughly the right one?
