Paul you could be right maybe I should try without the Snorkel.
I would doubt if I got 2 from a bad batch 12 Months apart though

It's possible, but very unlikely, you got one from a bad batch. It seems more likely the defender Td5 is a wheezy asthmatic compared with the Disco 2 Td5 in this regard.

Even so, and factoring in that you see 522 peak, a peak reading of 420 maximum is what I'd call "a bit low" - by 20% compared with your figure. A Siemens/VDO MAF in good condition is definitely a good reference for what a Defender Td5 should be reading.

Like I said, it's very unlikely that would be the case.

Not being too familiar with the Defender implementation, I'll throw this in as a "worth checking"... On the D2 a failed AAP sensor (mounted on the air box) will limit boost to 1bar/14psi. If the ECU is limiting fuelling to control boost it could explain the relatively low airflow figures?

The ambient air pressure reading with no sensor connected will be something like 12Kpa. I'd assume a dead sensor would read similar.

    cheers

I meant Xtreme should check this. His mate isn't seeing any more than 1 bar/14psi boost, so it's worthwhile checking.
