    TD5 drive belt

I am pulling my hair out so hopefully someone can help before it is gone
    I have a 2001 TD5 defender with airconditioning
I decided to change my drive belt as it is starting to get small cracks all around it.
I ordered one (a Daco) with some other bits from England and went to put it on but it seems to be about 1" too short It was a 7PK 1800. After trying for 2 days I gave up and went and bought a genuine one from landrover. It also was a 7PK 1801 It was also too short and I can't get that on either.
Both places say that there are only 2 belts, one for ace and one for without.

I managed to make out what was on my old belt and it says 7PK 1809, which means I guess it is 9mm longer ?? If I stretch them out side by side the old one is defiantly longer by a couple of cm, but I guess it has stretched over the years

If I do a search on that part number it comes up with a Landcruiser part ??

I don't really know where to go from here. The old belt goes off and on a breeze and no new ones go near to getting on. The fan is out and the tensioner is tied all the way back. I've checked and double checked that it is going on the right way (the old one goes on fine)

    Any ideas??

I thought the UK Defenders used different belts as Australian ones have air conditioning.

Not sure, but the genuine one was from a landrover dealer here in Melb. I did tell both of them that I had airconditioning

The correct belt for my Td5 A/c no ace Defender is part no PQS101500
The LR Genuine Belt is made by Contitech & is a 7PK1801

I have also used a QH QBR71800 no problems,

Are you winding the tensioner back all the way with a 15mm ringspanner ??

if it is an early td5 defender with australian fitted a/c, then an hym1132 belt is the correct one, 7pk1825.

That's the part number I have (the genuine one)
Yes the tensioner is all the way back and the belt is dead straight as it goes past the tensioner

Its a 2001 with Australia air conditioning. I'll try and chase that part number up. The 2 LR places I went to here in Melb here don't seem to know anything about it !

That then leads me to another question, as that belt will be longer than the one that is one there now (7pk1809) Does it matter how far the tensioner sits in? With a longer belt it will sit in further. I ask because at the moment is vibrates a lot over maybe 15mm which didn't look right to me (which is why this whole exercise started)

The part no. of the belt supplied to me by MR Auto. for- " drive belt, main, TD5, disco, no ace [ defender TD5 2A on]was PQS101500. The part no. of Paddocks Spares " alternator belt , [ Def. TD5 with air, Discovery non ace with air ]" is PQS101500 for aftermarket, PQS101500g for genuine. Bob

Bob, all the d2 Td5 use the same compressor as the Defender from 2002, (2A) but prior to this the HYM prefix (denoting australian 'special' only) numbers/ lengths are used as we get the Sanden Type of rotary compressor, with different pulley diameter, installed here.

Thank you for that . Perhaps you could explain to me why , when I purchased a alternator belt, made in Italy , from MR, it was longer than a belt of the same part no., made in Germany. Only reason I knew, the Italian belt slipped, under load, and when measured, was slightly longer. Bob
