Freelander 2 Engine deadspot
Hi, I am new to this posting thing but I cant seem to find any answers and was hoping someone on here can help me.
When I accelerate hard or up a hill sometimes the engine hits a deadspot. It feels like the car has hit a wall but the engine doesn't cut out.
In addition to this if I accelerate up a hill early morning the engine completely cuts out with an error message, Reduced Engine Performance. I can restart the engine and get going again but its a little concerning.
I would very much appreciate if anyone can advise me on what may be wrong. BTW, when I took her in for a service I brought this to the attention of the dealer who said there was nothing wrong and couldnt find a fault.

Diesel or petrol?
Was it a LR mechanic you took it to? A fault should be logged when you get an error on the dash which they can see.
Still in warranty?

Diesel
Hi, thanks for the response. Nothing logged. I took it to a Land Rover Authorised mechanic but he said they couldn't find anything wrong.
Seemed very strange to me. Might be time for a second opinion methinks. Just thought I would see if anyone else has experienced something similar.
Sadly she is out of Warranty.
Someone said to me that if this happens on a hill it is more than likely a fuel pump problem?

I would be checking the simple things first. Fuel filter, air filter and also have a look at the battery. It could be as simple as some bad fuel causing you problems.
Freel2.com is a good resource for FL2s:

Sounds like a sensor spitting the dummy somewhere there... Either way, for the reduced performance message to be coming up, it should be logging a fault code somewhere.
See if you can get to a main dealer, with the proper diags kit.
