Hi Frank, yes it is simple to remove safely, as long as the person is aware.

I believe that is what the D3/4 have anyway - and the occasional report of problems. The change to this sort of brake is almost certainly for production reasons rather than any idea of improving the driver experience. (a lot simpler - wires instead of linkage)

I would be wary of the one air brake locking the rears.
As one drives along the highways down here there are quite frequently two close black lines where a truck brake has locked. Not so bad where you have alot of axles but on a 4x4 at 110kph it could be nasty.
