    May have spoke too soon.

Brake light fuse intermittently blowing again but now with a difference. Before the brake light fuse blows the aux fuse blows and the brake lights power the aux e.g. put foot on brake radio will power up, take foot off radio goes off and for todays trick car won't turn off even with key out, take foot off brake and car will turn off.

Currently camped on the Murray River near Yarrawonga but heading to Shepparton to do some work for a few months before heading off again, so if I can't get it sorted a Shepparton Auto electrician referral may come in handy also.

I would have a close look at the trailer plug wiring, from where it's connected to the vehicle harness (unpick any electrical tape hiding a mess of connectors) to the trailer plug. Brake and aux circuits meet here. A short circuit between the two may well do what you are describing. There's an earth wire in the plug harness too for good measure.

Failing that, trace your rear wiring harness and see if there's a bracket, shelf, seat base or screw interfering with the harness.

I must have been too lazy to check those connectors last time, boy is that a mess. There is one exposed wire that may indeed be the problem. Will see how it goes. Thanks mate.

First up Happy New Year to You and Yours, bee utey is right on the money, I would also check all of your earths, like battery to engine block, engine block to chassis, chassis to body. Also make sure there's a Good earth from rear of chassis to trailer chassis, good luck with the wiring and the new job, regards Frank.

Yeah Happy New Year mate. Hope all is well. I will give those earths a good check. All going well down here. It is dry and dusty down here on the Murray, though the river looks in good nick. The kids are loving getting absolutely filthy but Sarah has had enough of this dust for a little while.

Already have some shifts lined up at work including Sunday which is double time, so should be able replenish the bank account a bit. It is a small world though the client they particularly want me to work with, I already know!

Sorry to learn about all your trouble. I had a similar experience a while ago, suspected an earth fault, but all the contacts were fine and even new ones didn't help. In the end it turned out to be a faulty bulb holder, swapped it and no troubles since, fingers crossed. I should have listened to advice earlier and swapped it straight away, but the holder looked alright to me and the one I used to test it against was salvaged from another vehicle and faulty as well. Bought a new one, solved the problem.
    Happy New Year, btw!
    Cheers

Thanks Jojo. It's only a minor inconvenience although today when i hooked the trailer up I had all brake lights lit up full time, which makes a change.

Anyway checked more wiring, and cleaned up the rear loom earth, and all seems good again, for now.

New problem is leaking swivel hubs, but will worry about that tomorrow.

In Shepparton now watching a damn good sunset.

    Hi,

I'm assuming you have a D2, there's no mention anywhere of what LR this actually is.

Ex GF had the same prob and I really struggled not to laugh when I opened the fuse box in her D2 and saw all those (50+?) little soldiers lined up, with a loom of fine wires as thick as your wrist running nearby. Fuse and one brake light (from memory) kept on blowing.

The prob was caused by inadequate earth wiring to her horse float. Was solved by running a dedicated bigger earth wire to the trailer socket on the D2 and a piggyback earth from the trailer socket to the dog food trailer chassis.

    cheers, DL
