    D3 electrical issues

I've been reading the January issue of Overlander magazine. And in an article "Tips and techniques" Sam Nolan from Weipa Autos, states in his top 5 4wd failures, " 1. Land Rover D3- A myriad of auto electrical issues mainly relating to water crossings".
Just wondering if others have come across this problem , and is there a easy fix.
I've been thinking of up dating to a D3, but I'm not interested in buying another 4wd with poor electrics.

1st I've heard of it hasn't affected me yet! There are the odd issues but from what i've seen of other vehicles nothing more than other vehicles. Probably just another person spreading crap about the brand due to their lack of knowledge of the vehicles some mechanics would prefer us all to still be driving 60 series.

    Cheers

Check out the blokes website. Authorized Toyota warranty service and pics of wall to wall Land Cruisers. Just another sign of the 4wd Action mob at work.

The only electrical item I know of that might be affected by water crossings is the transfer case ECU. It sits behind the battery & is often affected when the engine bay is pressure washed (usually from the connector terminals/pins corroding).

This one ECU impacts many of the driveline controls though (speed, suspension height....).

Well that about sums up the authenticity of this block and his report!

It's the first I've heard of it too.

Well this is good to know, I was starting to think about Jeeps.
While on tHe subject of D3s, how water tight are the doors. My D2 is hopeless, where as my Pajero NJ I never needed to worry about leaks.

...which would explain why Land Rovers do so well in fast-flowing water... they're self-ballasting...
