Hi all,
Are there any Qld mechanics on here who can clarify this?
I have put new tyres on my work 4wd today.
It has a placard which states tyres must have a speed rating of S (180km/h).
The tyres I want are rated R (170km/h).
The S tyres fitted and the only ones available in that size are highway terrains and the R tyres are all terrains in LT construction.
The tyre shop said they are legal as offroad passenger vehicles in Qld only need 140km/h rated tyres fitted regardless of placard.
The lease company said they are legal.
Qld Transport modification office said they are legal.
However the lease company still wouldn't fit them as the people they use to roadworthy the vehicles for sale at end of lease will only issue the roadworthy if the vehicle is fitted with tyres that meet the placard. They have made the lease company buy new tyres that meet the placard before and the lease company wants to avoid that in the future.
This is apparently the info that Qld roadworthy people use to assess a vehicle for a roadworthy and it states in black and white what was stated above on the bottom of page 27.

I've yet to pick the car up however I have been informed by the tyre shop that the lease company has given the go ahead for the R rated tyres. It took me a few phone calls though so I suppose they gave in.
So is this a grey area or are the roadworthy guys just doing it wrong?
Thanks
From the Regs you posted...which by the way were helpfulit is clear that the Tyre shop people et al have read and interpreted the Regs correctly... The stance adopted by the Road Worthy blokes is puzzling to say the least ...
