Yes, would be99% sure it is a "Rust protection" device. And am sure by the same % it is only a battery drainer! Ditch it ( Although a fella out Isasford way had 1 on his cruiser for 10 years and no rust!!!)
Cheers Scott
We just bought a Subaru Outback ( OK so this is a Land Rover Forum) and it has this aftermarket "thingy"
3 wires come out of it, Red to battery & 2 blacks, one to battery earth & one to an earth on the body. It has a slow flashing green light. The only thing I can think of is a rust protection device. Anybody got one on thier Landie?? Its definately an add on.

As others have said, "electronic rust protection". Bin it.
Had one of those on our Hyundai Santa Fe for 10 years. If it worked I dont know but NO rust in the Santa Fe & we get lots of salt air here

I'm 250 mtrs from the beach, often have salt on the vehicles after strong winds and our 2000 Disco and 89 Vitara have no rust either
And not a rust (wallet emptier) device to be seen!
We just clean our vehicles properly (occasionally).
The D2 & D4 often launch the boat too, it's just a matter of cleaning and desalting.
