Couldnt you make a 9mm spacer[10mm would be easier] with longer bolts to the yoke then your splines are back in opperating range.

Hi
I'm swapping out my P38 diff and replacing it with a Salisbury. The donor 130 is a TDi with a prop length of 1525mm, the receiving car is a Tdci with a prop length of 1534mm, so a difference of 9mm longer to the Tdci.
Both cars are on flat ground, and measurements are from the same spot on both prop shafts.
Do you think that it is worth getting a shaft adjusted?
My thinking or hoping is the Tdi can stretch the 9mm required. But how do you know at what point is enough, besides the obvious.
Alternative the Tdci can compress a bit more but looking at it visually, doesn't seem to have the space. I'm assuming on level flat ground the compressed still has a bit to go as the diff moves upward on a level plain.
What are your thoughts.

Have you taken in to consideration the length difference between the centre of the axle and diff flange of a sals vs p38 diff? Also the TDI vs TDCI, the transfercase in the TDCI is mounted further towards the rear of the vehicle i beleive as the front shaft is considerably longer then the TDI/rangie/disco/etc everything prior to TDCI with LT230.
Your best bet would be to get the diff under the vehicle, messure it up flange to flange and take the shaft to someone for shortening/lengthening. I am doing the same to my 130 once i get the 35 spline parts from the US and will get a custom shaft made to suit.
You need to consider what the required length will be when you fit the salisbury in the Tdci,as the Salisbury has a longer nose and the mounting of the gearbox/transfer on the Tdci isn't necessarily the same as in the Tdi.When the Salisbury is mounted, then you will need to measure the distance from the pinion flange to the output flange on the transfer, and see what the required length is.![]()

thanks guys, I see where my maths has gone wrong. No surprise I struggled at school hey
Was hoping I could get organised and get it done one weekend, but looks like I'll have to make arrangement to be without a car for a week while I get the shaft adjusted.
very good, know where I am now.

pretty sure JC has slipped a sals under a 130 puma.....he might have already done the maths for you
no need to be without it while the shaft is done, lock the CDL and drive it easy as it will have more slop/noise in the drive line like this.... its like driving a giant FWD hatchback haha![]()
I took weeds advice and contacted JC. To save any unnecessary contact on the poor bloke I thought I'd finish off the thread.
Yes shafts need adjusting. Thanks JC
Then I rang Hardy Spicer up the road at Darra (Brisbane).
Turn around is drop off one day, pick up the next.
shorten $175
lengthen $280
cheers
