My remedy was to get a 300TDI instead!

Not sure if this is the place for this type of thing but anyway I've been looking into building a pretty bombproof waterproofing setup for my v8.
The whole set up I reckon will cost about $250 to produce but I think I could get it down closer to 175-200 if I can bulk order the air pumps.
My question is, has anyone found a set up that is actually reliable for much cheaper than this and if not would anyone else be interested in a group buy?

V8's make the right noises despite their aquatic weakness.
Vroom smiles to the gallon are worth any amount of miles to the gallon. :-)
I'd be interested, sounds like cheap insurance, please elaborate.

The main component is a miniature solid state air pump like used in pneumatic controls.
Compressor mounted behind the dash to pressurise the dizzy. Splash guard for the coil and waterproof box for all the other vulnerable electrics.
There's a bit of playing with wires and relocating stuff but if this stuff works on v8's on boats then it will work on v8's in landys just as well.
The main motivation behind this is just to annoy the smug diesel crew with a v8 that swims. And as a bonus I won't have to pull the engine out. The main reason for the amount of money involved is the pump, I definitely don't fancy giving it a go with a cheap unit involved but I wanted a very quiet unit I could wire in so that it's on constantly with the ignition but won't blow the seals out on the dizzy or the electric box when it's under pressure and the compressors available are just too powerful.
A fish tank air pump would be perfect for a tramp spec equivalent but very noisy and would need an inverter.
Small inverter yes, but noisy? You must have a very old unit if you can hear it. Some modern units are so quiet you would think they were busted if you couldn't see the bubbles. They are designed for continuous use and even with a small inverter would be much cheaper than the pump you are talking about. Also, how would you hear the pump over the burble of the V8?.
Anyhow, keep us posted, I am interested on how it all turns out. Oh, and what electronics are you planning to put in a box? The ignition amp gets hot, and needs plenty of airflow to keep it alive.

Or......you could just fit a rubber glove over the dizzy and poke the leads out through the fingers........
Seal off with a few rubber bands or cable ties......same for the coils.....shouldn't take you any longer than a few minutes to fit before a water crossing.....and a lot simpler and cheaper.......
I could but I have 8 cylinders and most gloves have 5 fingers :-(
works fine, the mud lark guys have been doing this for ages.
never thought of a solid state air pump I was just going to plumb into my diff locker air pump
