    Angry Bess fails to rev

Not happy Jan!!! Our first long drive in our 2011 TDCI Defender since her trip home from the dealer in SA. Headed out early Thursday morn from Gippsland VIC heading up the Hume to Sydney. As the day heated up the A/C came on. Then I noticed that Bess was reluctant to rev cleanly as we pulled away from low speed through the gears. As the day went on this seemed to get worse till she would not rev past 3000rpm & had a slight surge. Engine temp remained constant at the 1/2 way point, A/C on or off no diff. No engine lights & everything else looks fine. Performance when playing up ( slightly intermittent ) was that bad that all I could do was short shift & wait for her to get going. Fault does seem heat related as we stopped a couple of times & the fault did not return till we had been going again for a while. Strangely she will except a lot of throttle percentage in top under load & not play up cause the RPM is still well below 3000rpm. Arranged for L/R at Narellan to check her on Friday. Had the car all day, no faults noted, no codes, no fix applied but charged $480.00 for interim service ( basically oil & filter change only with semmi syn oil ?( I thought L/R recommended full syn ) & told to drive her & see what happens. When questioned about there diagnostics was told not sure what information was given & that they did not really have all the equipment to fully test the car Bess is booked into Bruce Davis on Monday to have cruise control fitted so I will arsk them what there thoughts are. I will keep you all posted.

mine did this when it split the bottom intercooler hose. It goes into a 'temporary' limp home mode which limits the revs/speed with a temporary fault code - it comes up as 'code pending' on my Scangauge. When you stop and turn off the engine and re-start, the code is cleared. It will stay that way for a while and then do it again with a pending code. You get this 3 times - each time it re-sets when you turn off the engine and re-start. Then it decides its a 'proper' fault and writes the code to the ECU and the engine fault light comes on and you cant clear the code by turning off and re-starting. You may be able to clear this code with a Nanocom but I didnt have one at the time. This is what mine did anyway. The main difference with what you describe is that mine blew lots of black smoke too. Anyway, Bruce will be able to diagnose and fix whatever it is - good move getting the cruise control - it really gives your foot a rest and helps keep inside the speed limits!!

    Thumbs up Thanks Marty

Thanks for that info mate. We took her over to BDL but she has been running fine since the morning I took her to the dealers. We have since driven up to mid north coast since leaving BDL & she hasn't missed a beat. I have to say this is an odd one to me but I will keep you all updated if I find anything. On the other hand I have to say my wife & I are hugely impressed with Bruce, Adam & the rest of the crew at Bruce Davis Performance. We had the cruise fitted & it is working very well. We also purchased the Atric module system but I just have to wait for Bruce to Email the remap to me. Bruce also fitted the wheel spacers & adjusted the steering stops while we waited. What a huge improvement that has made. Bruce also very kindly let us test his 60th Anni 110 to try the re tune out & another DAMN fast TD5 90. What a hoot that thing is. My wife thinks BDL is a very dangerous shop for our bank balance. Great service & happy people, just a shame we now live in VIC but I know we will be doing further business.
