That's the trouble with living on the West Coast everything is spectacularly expensive, I was going to fit my cable myself, but as I booked it in for a checkup and complete drain of tranny fluid, before I drove up to Queensland, I decided to have a new filter and oil. So I asked how much to fit the cable while doing the service, $50, bargain.
P.S. Seems Headland is spelt Hedland in WA.Porthedland didn't register, sounded like somewhere in Vic., Port Headland I know is in WA.
So anyone who would not service ZF gearboxes, Mercedes, BMW, Falcon, etc. wouldn't be worth a pinch of **** anyway, Regards Frank.

ohhh I was just looking at Port Hedland on Google Maps! My friend just took a job there in native title. Unfortunately she knows nothing about Land Rovers, so this doesn't help you.![]()
Well I replaced the cable today
What a pain in the ass just to replace the cable
I dont have a hoist so it was on stands. All was going well untill it came time to remove the valve block. I ended up covered in oil.
Also I tried to do it without removing the cross srm for the chassis but ended up splitting a transmission mount trying to get access to the sump bolt
Im glad i pulled off the valve block because there was a bit of muck in there.
It's not a job for somone who dosent like to get oilyer than a Pornstar after a photo shoot but is straightfoward enough.
Just remember where each bolt goes in the valve body as there is a couple of different size bolts.
It's all back together now and i took it for a test run and all is good.
I just need to replace the transmission mount and it will be all sweet.
port hedland! eek. i'm too scared to ask what your rent is. nearly fainted flipping through the real estate section of the local paper when i was up there last year sometime... cheapest was about $1800 a week.
nice spot though, bought some sick brown stubbies from the op shop.
