Yes, on my D2 that was seeing an inlet manifold pressure of 18psi (tested using an Autometer and Speco Meter mechanical gauges), I was sucking in more air than the standard MAF sensor could handle.

18psi is higher than the standard setup.

Disconnecting the MAF sensor confirmed this as the vehicle functioned correctly on default values.
Fitting an Alive Tuning MAF sensor solved the issue. The other alternative solutions found were the dual box from IRB Developments or the bypass hose (recommended by BAS).

I have a Boost Box ready to be installed, but I only have a Nanocom to read boost pressures, and no boost gauge is available for me. What is in your opinion the max boost read on a Nanocom that is safe with a Boost Box connected to the ECU ? I do not know if the Nano reads are 100% reliable as a boost gauge.

You wont be able to get your boost level using a nanocom with the boost box fitted.
The boost box alters the signal to the ECU and this is how you avoid the overboost situation.

Either an independent boost gauge or the very crude 'one psi for every full turn of the wastegate rod adjusting nut from standard' are your only options.

    Cheers,

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.
