We both know what your gonna do

my freshened 300slug has done 100 hours now (8000km ish)
    40 thou pistons
all new everything else with a Turners head and 0 hole composite
IP lift at JCs majik height
running a manual dawes valve for the turbo so spinning up to 20psi (alarm set at 18)

Just today I was playing to report back to Dave (Blknight) about turbo lag

Even though I am only pulling max 550 EGT at the blanking plug
(out of choice - aneroid is set at max fuel but fuel screw "could" come out a bit)
I just dont have any ugly lag - the old 380 limits me more than boost
I can bang the boost alarm (18psi) in the first 4 cogs over a 200m distance (of course Im only doing 70 at the end of it!) but essentially no real lag and with 550EGTs hopefully good longevity

Its a work truck - dont fiddle with the unknown - chuck in what you know and just drive the bloody thing

    Steve, Steve, Steve.

We both know mines a Tdi with 300,000+km on it.
We also both know what I'll end up doing

It has a 3" pipe, 80mm inlet tube and @17psi it will hit 750* up a hill if I let it.

I think Serg would agree that considering it's a 130 with fruit and 255/85's it pulls at least as well as his HS2.8TGV once it has some boost up.
A VNT would fix that, but....it's a Tdi, silk purses and sows ears comes to mind, and one day it'll go BANG

If I could get a 2.8 bottom end easily, (or I spoke Portuguese) that's the way I'd really like to go.
Much easier installation and the strength to take my abuse, along with a Turbo Technics VNT, TD5's would quake

Oh, ok, they wouldn't laugh as much

    Rebuild before bang oclock
turn the fuel down a smidgen

and just ake sure you grab an extra roady if your going anywhere

4bd1 will rattle you to death
fancy pants 2point8s and VNTs will just annoy you
you know that 40 thou pistons makes it like 2point58 litres or someting

The EU3 makes a 40Nm more torque in d2 guise, but I'm guessing that is mainly down to the larger intercooler and the revised mapping to suit.

According to a 2004 sales brochure I have, it was only the auto which had 340Nm. The manual was still 300Nm.

    TD5 heads

    Rick

What do think of the port mods Lara did on his td5 head? He posted up pics to the thread on LR4x4.com which you mentioned before.

    Cheers

Went looking for that last night Paul and didn't find them.
He also went up in inlet valve size by 1mm too.

I'll have another look tonight, but I better stop AULROíng and do some work soon for this week

[edit] Found it. It helps when one uses the right search criteria (like the posters name)

Rick, I don't recall you mentioning BMW donks yet. The 3.0 litre, 6 cyl M57 engine from X5, 330 , 530 cars can produce good power and torque.
