Thread: D1 V8 Strange fuel leak/EVAP problem

Hi,

After a couple of years of being able to find answers to my questions by searching on the forum I'm finally stumped!
I've got a 97 Disco1 v8 which I mostly run on gas and usually only fill the petrol tank up half way, a couple of weeks ago I filled the tank full and petrol started leaking from the top of the tank, I couldn't see any leaks from the filler pipes, It was dripping from both chassis rails and the level dropped by about 1/8, I did a search on here and google and found a few threads on split pipes and vac lines, easy I thought!!
I pulled the tank and couldn't see any splits or perished pipes so I pulled the filler pipe too, removed the fuel pump and sealed the hole, and reattached the filler pipe and filled the hole lot with water on the ground and NO LEAKS!!!!
I replaced the fuel pump last year and cant see any cracks in it and the retaining ring was tight and there where no signs of leaks when I removed it.

My tank used to hiss for about 5-10 secs when I opened the filler but this stopped a few months ago which makes me think it may have something to do with the EVAP system?
So has anyone ever experienced this problem? Any Ideas????

I had exactly the same problem. I use LPG mostly and rarely use much petrol but I received a fuel card and decided to fill the tank with petrol. Fuel started leaking out of the tank top and I found that it was the vent pipe going from a fitting near the filler to the top of the tank which was split under the clips. It's 3/4" I.D. fuel hose.
