    Mounting an Ali heat exchanger

    Hi guys,

I'm working out the best way to mount the heat exchanger for my water to air intercooler. It has wholes tapped into it so I can pretty easily just makes some mounts that it bolts into - but I don't want it to crack.

Would it be better to make up a C section top and bottom, or each side with a platform for it to sit on? That way if the body flexes (defender) it won't twist it as much..

The deefer body doesn't flex like a disco or rangie, you'd be pretty safe with any flexy bushing type of attachment system to a decent frame, mounted to the top of the front crossmemer like the rad lower mounts are. you can then brace back to the inner guard face or up to the top of the bonnet catch plate with threaded rod like I have for my FMIC.. I take it it doesn't have a fan mounted ON the heat exchanger like some i have seen? If so, then mount the fan seperately.

    Thanks JC.

It does have fan mounts on it, but I can't fit the fan without a lot of mucking around..

Will be keeping AC, so I'm a bit concerned that I may not get enough flow with high-mount -> spots -> intercooler exchanger -> a/c exchanger -> radiator.

The intercooler exchanger has a 10" davis craig.. but I'm thinking it might be best to remove the engine fan and run a pair on the inside to suck through.. Play by ear I guess. The Isuzu runs fairly cool in any case.

I have a possible cooling issue with mine to check too, working hard (IE towing a car trailer with a 130 on it etc etc...3ton+ ) it'll see 3/4 on the gauge up a steep hill. Cools down very fast on the flat though. I have A/C - IC- rad and no decent fan shroud, with the Isuzu 110 fixed fan.

First job is to fit a decent gauge as at a measured 78 degrees at thermo housing I am seeing above half on the dash gauge. Judging by this it may be I am only seeing 90 to 95 degrees when 'hot', so that isn't a cause for concern at all.
