2-cylinder Holden stationary engine

Here are a couple of photos that are ambitious conversions.

The Offy Twin was a four cylinder 220 in a Champ car that disembowelled itself big time and the remains made into a twin for a midget speedcar. I have no information as to whether it was successful or not.

The V16 Chev. was made from two small blocks by a welding and fabrication company to demonstrate their expertise.

Both engines, and many others, are in Speedy Bill Smith's Museum of American Speed in Lincoln, Nebraska, next door to his enormous speed equipment business, Speedway Motors.

local engine builder did lots of this stuff for racing in the old days.

I also have seen 3 cyl holden that used a bilit crank made for a gen plant.it runs smother than the 2 cyl.

the compressor of choice is VW 1600.

now they just alloy cast the block and machine to suit.a few companies around have got chev tooling packed in boxes-thy moved on to other projects.

the engines ive looked at are the 2.5 4cyl chev starfires with ford or chev heads.these are common in boat use from mexico in the states with up to 3 liter.

the BMC engines had that looked like a bandsaw could cut off 2 cyl.even had that bolt on gearbox flange that covered rear of the water passage.

Used to be common in speedway for Chev and Ford small blocks to be cut up into in-line 4's or V4's. Nowadays there are purpose built engines available with billet blocks and heads or castings from the pro. engine builders.

Keith Blicharski was experimenting with a Ford 289 based inline 4 in the late 1960's in Brisbane. Keith was also playing with an aluminium block, iron head Rambler engine for possible use in speedway. This was not a proposition for a midget as both bore and stroke needed to be reduced to meet the capacity limit.
