    2-cylinder Holden stationary engine

    I saw this at the Scoresby steam rally at the weekend.

    The first question that springs to mind is ......why ?




    The next question is which cylinders were used ?




    It's certainly an exercise in welding cast iron and crankshafts. Maybe it threw a rod and the owner decided to use the remains ?
    The sump was quite a heavy fabrication, there is a mounting at the front edge of the sump.
    I didn't get to take a picture of the other side of the motor.

    Wow! A Holden red 62 CID, it's very fuel efficient, just look at the size of the petrol tank.

    Does it have headers and a high lift cam?

    You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    If you ask WHY? , you haven't seen the Vtwin motocycle engine I saw at Archerfield Air Show about 20 years ago.
    It was made from 2 cylinders of a Rolls Royce Merlin.
    Now that would be a serious danger to the reproductive parts.
    Sounded good though.

    the rear 3-4 cyl of a starfire.block and head.
    I think these are a though peice but the sumps looks as if it was actually used.

    has it an SU or a webber.1 port head??

    seen similar but im interested in the harmonic balance work.

    It looks as though the rear section of the block and the front section of the head were utilised.
    It would be good to run an eye over the it in reality!

    I have seen a trailer mounted red Holden used as a compressor. The back three ran, and via a reground cam that gave compressor timing, the front three compressed intake
    air and exhausted it via the plug hole to a pressure tank. It had a Clae governor that restricted it to two speeds, idle and 2000 rpm. It was made up by a commercial and industrial painter to run multiple pneumatic tools like angle grinders, belt sanders, etc.

    The owner reckoned it would be easy for a fitter-machinist and/or boilermaker to cut up a Holden Six to make a three cylinder engine using either end.

    I have a red 186 that does go but number 5 has a leak somewhere.
    Maybe I could do this.....but probably not
