    silicon hose benefits?

I keep seeing silicon hose replacements for oem turbo intercooler. What is the realterm benefits over the oem plastic? Do we really get more air?

a slight tiny advantage they have over rubber hoses is they allegedly don't expand as readily while under boost, some will have you believe that it results in more boost into the motor (meaning less is wasted)

in real life however, you would struggle to measure the difference

also they can be less prone to delamination, which can be a real problem in some vehicles

They dont suffer delamination (well the good ones), aren't susceptible to oil contamination, they dont bulge, they handle the heat in the engine bay better, dont perish, split or become porous.

I'm glad someone has asked the question, as I have been uhming and ahhing over whether I should shell out 80 bucks on one for my D3. Seems the answer is yes, it'll be one less thing that I will have to worry about for the near future.

They do all of the above, but are slippery, make sure you have good clamps, and clamp them well. Or you may suffer the embarrassment of a hose slipping off , & black smoke just outside of Longreach, like someone I know Bob

    Re: silicon hose benefits?

When I fitted mine I replaced the clamps with Tbolt clamps which not only look better but are wider so won't cut into the hose. They also don't strip when you try to get them really tight.
