With tens of thousands of Defenders and Disco 1s and 2s (many less than 10 years old) running around and Ashcroft's already one the case, I can't imagine it will be very long before alternate supplies are found.

The LT85 in my last 110 lasted a very very long time(200,000) hard km's, alot of this towing a 3.5 tonne bale buggy behind a 6.2 diesel, Yes the bearings were rumbly before I sold it, lol, there was a guy that I knew that but a 6.2 in front of a LT77 in a RRC, lasted a full 3 months!! blew its guts out, smashed layshaft and all
Australian law requires car parts be made available for a period of 10 years from the point of time production ceases - so if Landrover Australia cannot provide this part or an alternative they can be prosecuted if a complaint is made.
This issue came up when Daewoo folded in Australia and GM as the major owner of the company had to give the Govt a guarantee that it would supply new OEM Daewoo parts to meet the 10 year rule. When MG/Rover failed, as there was no overarching ownership company at the time, there was no one that the Govt could hold responsible for the provision of parts.
I would say it is a bit of a furfy.
