    LT95 option with OD

Righto, I have had the option of a Rangie 95 with a fairey overdrive instead of converting it to auto like I had planned, is this a good idea? In front of it will be a healthy 3.9 EFI or possibly a P76, as I have all the gear to do the conversion, just I worry about overheating going this way. Just wanted thoughts on the 95 thing, can the Fairey handle a bit of power? will it be overgeared with the RR gearset? this is in a C/C 110. thanks alot

Got one in my '75 Rangie. It's noisy (noisier than the LT95), and doesn't seem to give you that much more in the legs dept.

Supposed to be alot stronger than the OD's in the series landies though.

It all depends on which version, I had one of the early LT95 Farey O/D and it lasted me a full 6 months on a standard carby 3.5.

I believe it was a 3 month warranty on the O/D back then.

If your O/D has the window with the archemedes screw visable, it may be O.K. Still have the same problem of the fine splines in the dog clutch though.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Don't confuse the Series O/D with the LT95 O/D as the LT95 O/D if used correctly - double shift when changing down, only using it it 4th gear and doing regular oil changes in the tfr case - is very reliable and has few problems.

I bought my O/d as a job lot with an LT95 Stage 1 gearbox and was fitted 4 years ago to my 101 - first trip with no lever and unbeknowns to me in O/d so was being used in all gears - certainly not recommended but held up well.
The O/d is still running well.

Shizen! I hope you weren't putting the 101 though its paces in low range! I'm beginning to wish I kept the LT85 out of my last 110 now, was not a bad box overall

Why - the LT95 is a lot stronger box, albiet 4 speed vs 5 speed.

The LT85 is quite a stromg box with a weak 5th gear and therein lies the problem.

It is however a much stronger box than a LT77 but the 30mm longer R380 has more meat on on the 5th gearset making a better box recomended over the LT95 by KLR for Isuzu conversions so long as you you include the external oil cooler.

If it were my auto->manual conversion, I'd be looking for an R380 out of a late Disco 1.

I can't remember, but isn't there a fifth gear bearing that's become unavailable for the R380? One of the Ashcrofts posted something here about it.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
