    Stranded by a maxi fuse

    Hi all,

I was out this weekend, at the bottom of a steep entry into a river crossing on Dingo Hill track when my 300 tdi stopped dead, no dash lights, dead. Only thing working was my auxiliary circuits.

Eventually traced it to a blown 60amp maxi fuse in the fuse block in the engine bay.

I haven't figured out why it blew but as I only had 1 20 amp maxi fuse on me we roll started it and it ran all the way home.

I guess not many people carry spare maxi fuses - so heads up, add them to your kit!

Has anyone replaced these fuses in the engine bay with circuit breakers? I seems to me to be a more sensible solution....?

    Any thoughts?

    Nathan

There's pros and cons for the argument of fuses versus breakers. The biggest one is cost for the manufacturer, they'll carry on fitting 10 cent fuses for as long as they can.

Found the cause of the problem, insulation from the ignition switch had rubbed off where it goes across the back of the engine to the starter motor.

Taped up, now in some flexi duct and all working!
