Question 1996 Landrover Disco V8 to 300TDI will it work ?

Hi there, so I am looking at replacing my V8 3.9 L which is in a late 1996 model with the landrover 300TDI Thats in a 1998 model. My Transmission is a Automatic ZF.

Wanting to know what would need to be replaced on my v8 to do so. The tdi im looking at comes with the Manifolds, Turbo and Pump. Also will it bolt straight up to my transmission.

    Thanks Matt

    Hi Matt,

you... err... well, I think that you have to have a good reason. My defender was converted in 2001 from V8 to 300tdi, including gearbox. It was done by the previous owner in UK, and the invoice (at that time) summed more than GBP 6000.

I'm not trying to discourage you at all, I have been working during the last 18 months in a project which is way more "unpractical"

I think that you will need new mounts of the engine, new radiator with intercooler, new exhaust... just to name a few. It is doable, but it is going to keep you busy for a long, long time. And you will need another car in the meantime. Hey, but the decision is only yours !

There must be some people here who can post a couple of engine bay photos, so you can get a better idea of what is needed.

    Carlos

Thanks for the reply Carlos, sounds about right. Definately will not worry about it due to the expense when you can pick up a car for the cost of the conversion. Thanks again
