    shockers on a budget

Hi all, I need some advise on shocker brands!!
1st car is a disco 2 sls and ace not used as a off roader more tow and touring, what to get?? I would go koni but things are tight at the moment so not really a option.

the 2nd rig is my toy, d1 with 2 inch lift, tows the camper trailer and does some good fun off roading so ride and flex are important. I have now broken 2 ridepro shockers, both on the rear and both split around the lower mount so am thinking they are crap and need somthing more reliable, I would be more inclined to spend more on my shockers than on the wifes toorak tractor

    anyones experiances would be appreciated

if your on a budget, (or meybe even if your not) you cant go past Terrafirma Big Bore,

my 110 had Bilsteins on it when I bought it, about 25k later one of the rear ones gave out , admittedly they had done one trip towing around Australia, I was going to get Koni Raids to replace them but at 1/4 the price I thought I'd try the TF Big Bores, could not be happier - Nicer all round than the Bilsteins,

when my front shockers die I'll be getting the BigBores up front too.

My most recently purchased type was bilsteins - gave them a hammering over 20000km - so far quite happy about them - they're not the most expensive but I don't know if they're in your budget bracket.

there you go - the first two opposing views to deal with....

And if you get the Bilsteins from the USA, they are exactly half the price they are in Aus, even with the freight .

My first thoughts are - if you are breaking the shockers and have a "flexy"suspension - I would be checking shock lengths first - are you over extending or bottoming the shocks out causing the breakages?

My understanding is that the TF big bores catch on the front spring on articulation.

    Hi there
It is also my understanding that the Big Bores catch the front spring on articulation to.

I went with the standard TerraFirmas (bought from Ritters in Vic) paired with Kings springs. Quite happy with them - Ritters pushed me toward the TerraFirma actually. They had the Konis in stock at the time to.

They said they'd had good feedback on the Terras. So at half the price l thought l'd give them a go....

I tow a camper and do general touring. Very happy with the ride on road too.

My big bores got horrible scored when my springs dislocated. And my springs are too heavy duty (add half a ton with maybe 5 mm drop) otherwise I'm happy with them.
