    VNT Turbo question

hoping someone here can help me out here.

let say i was to acquire a turbo like this one

can either of the housings be rotated 90Deg?

I know with other turbos you can loosen the retaining ring and spin them to suit. Can this be done with a VNT?

Yes it can. Compressor housing is simple loosen and rotate, but turbine housing is bit more involved.
Haven't done one myself but know that Rovercare and Mike_ie have done them for fitment to 4bd1's. From memory for the turbine housing there is a locating pin that needs to be re-drilled in the new location.

Google 'clocking a VNT' that should come up with something, and yes you can rotate the 2 sides.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

But you'll often end up with actuator/flange interference that makes the clocking you want nigh on impossible.

VNT turbo cores are built with the actuator lever in one of two places. If it's the wrong one, they just won't work. I had an audi GT2052 that I just couldn't make work. Sold it for a merc GT2256V which does an excellent job of holding down my work-bench.

The BMW ones I've seen don't have the 4 bolt flange like the picture you posted - they have a 3 bolt sort of triangle/D-shape flange (that's a mongrel to adapt to a 4-bolt manifold).
The one in your picture looks like the one from an Iveco Turbodaily.

You are right that was the 1st pic that came up. The BMW units have a TD5 looking flange. I am thinking of putting on my TD5 as an experiment if i can find one that's not to expensive. but from what i can work out its all ass about so its going to be a big job
